Georgian Nordic Receives Ontario Trillium Grant

Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre (GNOAC) was recently the grateful recipient of funds from the Ontario Trillium Foundation – Resilient Communities Fund. We’re excited to receive these funds, which we are using to fill a number of key needs at GNOAC.

A new payment kiosk, recently installed on the deck of the chalet/Burrow, lets us capture user fees year round, especially in the non-winter season, when an attendant isn’t on-site. Replacing our old outhouse with a new outdoor washroom allows GNOAC to provide comfortable and clean facilities year round. The removal of the old outhouse also cleans up the stadium area and makes room for larger race events.

Younger athletes were also supported throughout this past season by our new timing equipment, which allowed coaches to set up “pop-up” race events that gave them smaller group experiences for racing.  As well, we developed better signage to inform our growing number of diverse users about how to use the trails – whether for fatbiking, skiing, snowshoeing or, in the warmer months, hiking, biking and dog walking. During COVID-19, we have seen unprecedented growth in members and visitors alike, and these funds have helped us better serve them. GNOAC is grateful to have received this grant.
